Happy New Year - 2024!

Happy New Year - do you have a Word of the Year, too?

Do you have a Word of the Year?

Recently I was cleaning out my Canva files (I’ve been using that amazing tool forevah and things tend to build up…) and I found a string of graphics I’d put together. It was so meaningful to pour a cuppa and think about the past and see how things have progressed, relative to the words I’ve used…

I’ve used them in so many ways over the years. Sometimes they were descriptive, other times they became a filter through which I made decisions; some words were almost predictive (kinda like praying for patience if you’ve ever done that sorta thing) while other words provided sweet hope and encouragement during a stormy season.
I usually start thinking and praying about next year’s in Q4. Fall and winter lend themselves quite naturally to introspection, and while I’m assessing the current year and beginning to plan for the next, I guess I’m especially open to seeking a framework for the future and help for whatever unfolds…

I have to admit that this year’s word leaves me a bit unsettled. While the words of Scripture are indeed comforting, having the word “courage” floating out there is akin to that reference I made earlier about praying for patience. Most of the time, when that happens, we find ourselves in situations that require patience - either to develop it or to exercise it. And how wants that, right? I don’t think I’m only speaking for myself when I say we just basically want to know we have it in our toolbox, but we don’t really want to use it, know what I mean?

So there it is - courage. I have big goals this year, so I can already see how I may need this one. But even if I didn’t have a clue, I’m so grateful that I serve a God who does

Be well, friends - and happy New Year!
